The Tribe of Indians

By Monty | June 1, 2010

Baseball fans in Cleveland, Ohio happen to be able to support their Indians for additional than a century. The Indians, who play inside the Central Division of the American League, call Progressive Field, formerly Jacob’s Area, household. In their 109 year history, they’ve won the Globe Series on two occasions – in 1920 and again in 1948. Their background, though extended and illustrious, has not often been no cost of controversy. They’ve genuinely upset the persons of Cleveland by not bringing house a championship in so prolonged. Even with this they still have some extremely loyal fans.
The Name
The “Indians” received the identify as a result in the choice to transform it from the Cleveland Blues in 1914. The name, chosen to focus on the nobility of Native Americans, resulted in the team’s nicknames: The Tribe plus the Wahoos (which pays homage on the mascot, Chief Wahoo).
Success in various forms
Cleveland is typically not thought of as a powerhouse group, but the group has been competitive for much of its background. In addition to two championships, the Indians have won the American League pennant five times and seven divisional titles. Hall of Fame players to have worn a Cleveland uniform consist of Al Lopez, Joe Sewell and Cy Young. Furthermore to titles, the Indians have been completely successful in drawing fans. In the mid 1990s, they broke records for home game attendance, selling out for over 450 games. So it’s incredible sometimes that fans will help a group even when it is losing. You have to love the fans of Cleveland.
About that identify
Like various sports teams more than the previous decades, the Indians have seen their team identify come under scrutiny. Deemed racially insensitive and politically incorrect by some, there are already protests, calls for boycotts and demands that the group modify its identify and mascot, and even repent for employing the term “Indians”. This as ridicules  as it truly is has not caused the team to give up its beloved identify.
The Indians organization has refused to cave in to these demands, maintaining that the identify is, was, and will generally be considered a tribute towards the indigenous peoples of North America. It doesn’t seem likely that the group will change the identify inside the near future, and given the Indians’ fabled background and strong fan base that is doubtlessly a quite good point for baseball. And it truly is also a very good issue for every one of the Indian tribes around the world. The Cleveland group has never done anything to embarrass or cause any tribe of Indians to actually feel downgraded. As a matter of fact if this may be the case must every one of the tigers in the globe be upset when the Detroit Tigers take the area. Or maybe the northerners in the US should really feel degraded when the New York Yankees take the area. I for one even although I am not a large Ole Miss fan personally have no difficulty with them sporting my heritage. For sir Frankly I don’t give a damn.
