Is There Something Wrong With Your Grip?

By Monty | May 31, 2010

perhaps you should try a weaker grip!  There are numerous examples of how this can not only add arc to your shot, but increase the power of  it as well.

You should notice that when you grip your club, “V’s” are defined  by both hands between the pointer finger and the thumb.  I should get this out right away,  all information I give here will be from a right hand golf player’s  perspective. When you take your grip and address the ball, you should notice that the “V” formed by your hands is pointing to your right shoulder which is towards the back of your stance. This results in what should be called a strong grip.

Now, if you want to try a weak grip, here’s how to accomplish that. Firstly, setup like you’re going to do the normal/strong grip mentioned earlier which had both of the “V’s” formed by your hands pointed at the right shoulder. Next , don’t at any cost move your left hand. This will mess everything up. Thirdly, without moving the baby finger of your right hand, lay open the rest of your right hand, and rotate it over the top of  the grip. This will cause your left thumb to be totally covered by the right palm. What you should notice now, is that the “V” formed by your right hand will be pointing at your left shoulder, or it may even be directed at your head.

It will feel very weird maybe even counter intuitive at first, but it could be just what the doctor ordered to fix your swing. Follow this step by step golf swing method, as just one method to better your golf swing mechanics and help your game. This kind of grip will not work with all golf swings, and yours maybe one of them where it doesn’t work. So, don’t give up, keep on trying you will be rewarded.
