Choose The Best Badminton Sets

By Monty | June 9, 2010

Whether you’re playing badminton for fun or for competition you’re going to find several badminton sets to choose from when you shop for them online. Some sets are cheap and others are expensive, but you can’t tell by looking at the picture if you will be purchasing a high-quality set or a poorly-made one. Even if you have a limited amount of money to spend, you still don’t want to buy rackets that will break or a net that will tear the first time you use them. Here are a few things you can look for to make sure you get a set that meets your needs.

First, the poles:  Buy a set with metal poles, preferably aluminum. Aluminum poles are surprisingly light in weight, but they are stronger and will last a lot longer than PVC poles. PVC poles may be cheaper, but you have to add in the expense of the duct tape that you will have to buy to reinforce these weak poles.

Easy To Set Up – Since most people are buying badminton sets for their own entertainment you’ll want to look for one that’s easy to set up and doesn’t require a lot of staking and stringing. If it takes longer than 5 or 6 minutes to set up the net, you’ll be bored with it before you’re even ready to play.

Third, the rackets:  You’re pretty much limited to the rackets that come with the badminton set, unless you buy extra rackets separately. Since you’re generally purchasing a set for your own entertainment the quality of the racquets doesn’t have that much effect. And if you find you’d like to upgrade to a better quality racquet then you’ll always have the cheaper ones that came with your set for the beginning players in your group.
